Sport, in general, is a fickle thing. In 2024, Alisa didn't even step on the ice, and in 2025, everything changed. It's not Alisa's fault, but it's the truth: if Russian athletes hadn't had to choose a single contender a year before the Games, if the judges hadn't been so supportive, or if Adelia hadn't gotten injured, Alisa wouldn't have won gold. These are all just assumptions, but in any case, she's had a brilliant career—whether she returns or not. She's charismatic and fun. It's not her fault that things turned out the way they did—it's all down to external factors. Personally, I'd have preferred the Olympic gold to go to the skater who presented original programs, showed better skating, and jumps with full rotations.
The injury of Adelia and Alina was predictable, it wasn't a coincidence (I even talked about it here during the Olympic qualifying round). 17-18 is the age when Eteri's girls start losing quads and injuries start piling up. The skaters' injuries early this season are telling (if the previous examples weren't enough). This is the price to pay for a ton of quads and (relative) consistency at a young age.
And even if it were possible to send more than one, who do you think would win? Even if we forget about age and include Dvoeglazova—we saw how "well" she can skate at the Russian State Gymnastics Federation. Sadkova, Khusnutdinova, Akateva? That's not even funny. Okay, let's see what happens outside of the TShT. I like Muravyova, but she's also going through puberty and is unstable, so there's a high probability she'd make a mistake somewhere. Frolova probably could have won (with good support from the Federation), but then again, there's no guarantee. Zakharova's quads are like a lottery. Nelyubova might have had a chance with her triaxels, but that's not a given.
I don't understand where the takeaway comes from that Alisa won at the Olympics only in the absence of Russians. Logically, it doesn't work that way. Or would the entire reality have to change for that to happen?
